
Sri Lanka has reiterated the vital importance of maintaining lasting peace in the Indian Ocean region to support sustainable development, regional security, and economic resilience.
Delivering the opening statement at the 24th Meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Council of Ministers, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to building a cohesive and inclusive region.
He emphasized the need for collaborative efforts among member states to ensure the long-term sustainability, security, and prosperity of the Indian Ocean.
As the current Chair of IORA, Sri Lanka successfully hosted the 24th Council of Ministers’ Meeting and the 27th Committee of Senior Officials’ Meeting from 19th to 21st of May 2025.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the high-level meetings were held virtually under the theme “Sustainable Indian Ocean for Future Generations.”
