Sri Lanka ranks 133rd in world happiness report

Sri Lanka has fallen to 133rd place in the World Happiness Report 2025, down from 128th in the previous year.

Published by the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford, in collaboration with Gallup and the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network, the report assesses happiness levels in 147 countries based on self-reported well-being. Key factors include health, wealth, freedom, generosity, and freedom from corruption.

Finland retained its position as the happiest country, followed by Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, and the Netherlands. The United States ranked 24th, continuing its decline from 11th place in 2012.

At the bottom of the index, Afghanistan ranked lowest, with Sierra Leone, Lebanon, and Malawi also among the least happy nations.

The report also noted increasing unhappiness in the U.S., citing a rising trend of eating alone as a contributing factor.
