

Sri Lanka has earned global recognition after being ranked among the world’s top island destinations in the 2026 travel rankings, highlighting its natural beauty, rich culture, and unique tourism experiences.

The latest rankings by international travel publications placed Sri Lanka alongside some of the world’s most popular island destinations, praised for its stunning beaches, wildlife, ancient heritage, scenic landscapes, and diverse travel experiences.
Thailand’s Koh Samui claimed the top position in the Travel + Leisure 2026 World’s Best Islands list, followed by destinations including the Maldives, Galápagos Islands, Bali, and Phuket. Sri Lanka was also featured among the leading islands worldwide.
Travel experts highlighted Sri Lanka’s unique combination of tropical coastlines, misty mountains, tea plantations, cultural landmarks, and wildlife attractions as key reasons for its growing popularity among international visitors.
The recognition comes as Sri Lanka continues efforts to expand its tourism sector and attract more global travellers by promoting the island’s natural and cultural strengths.
Tourism officials say international recognition of Sri Lanka’s attractions will help strengthen the country’s position as a leading destination in the global travel market.
