Sri Lanka Railways is set to launch a smart ticketing pilot project in April under the CSRP initiative, aiming to replace traditional paper tickets with a modern digital ticketing system across the country.
The pilot program will begin on the Kelani Valley line, covering stations including Narahenpita, Nugegoda, Makumbura, Homagama, and Padukka over several days in April.
The new system will feature advanced ticket validation equipment, aimed at improving efficiency and enhancing passenger convenience.
Following the pilot phase, authorities plan to expand the system to all stations along the Kelani Valley line before gradually introducing it to other railway routes islandwide.
Officials also noted that additional passenger-friendly features will be introduced, with the goal of completing the project within this year.
