Sri Lanka Police has introduced a dedicated WhatsApp number, 070-4755600, enabling the public to report incidents of reckless and dangerous driving, the Police Media Division announced.

The initiative comes amid the growing use of social media, where road accidents and traffic violations are increasingly being recorded and shared online.
Authorities noted that members of the public have already been submitting video evidence of offences such as speeding, unsafe overtaking, and other hazardous driving behaviours.
Police said such submissions have helped identify offenders and take legal action, while also expressing appreciation for public cooperation in providing footage of incidents including loss of vehicle control, dangerous manoeuvres, and unsafe road crossings.
The WhatsApp service will operate 24 hours a day under the supervision of the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Traffic Control and Road Safety.
The police further requested that all submissions include relevant details such as the date, location, and the respective police division where the incident occurred.
They also urged the public not to send fabricated or AI-generated content, and to support efforts aimed at improving road safety and enforcing traffic regulations.
