The Sri Lanka Navy recently conducted a comprehensive training exercise on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) emergency response at the Trincomalee Harbour, aimed at strengthening preparedness against a range of potential threats.
The exercise was organized by the CBRN Unit of the Eastern Naval Command and demonstrated a strong multi-agency approach. Representatives from several key institutions took part, including the Disaster Management Centre, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Marine Environment Protection Authority, the Fire Service Department, the Air Force Academy China Bay, the 22nd Infantry Division of the Sri Lanka Army, and the China Bay Police Station.
During the theoretical sessions held last week (31), participants were trained to identify potential chemical hazards, manage toxic substances, provide medical assistance to victims, and improve their understanding of CBRN-related threats.
The practical sessions offered hands-on experience in handling safety equipment during chemical emergencies, safely evacuating individuals, and implementing proper procedures for the disposal of hazardous chemical materials.
