Sri Lanka has been ranked among the top five “Best Places to Visit in Asia” for 2026 by U.S. News & World Report, marking a significant milestone in the country’s tourism recovery.
The U.S.-based publication placed Sri Lanka ahead of several established regional destinations, highlighting its diverse attractions and growing appeal among global travellers. The rankings were based on a data-driven assessment of accessibility and affordability, cultural and culinary richness, attractions, and reader sentiment.
The report praised Sri Lanka’s rare ability to combine pristine beaches, ancient UNESCO World Heritage sites and world-class wildlife safaris within a compact island, noting that the country has evolved into a stand-alone destination rather than a secondary regional stop.
The recognition comes as Sri Lanka aims for record tourist arrivals in 2026, supported by a new visa-free entry policy for 40 countries and the expansion of luxury eco-tourism offerings and scenic rail travel experiences.
