Sri Lanka launches strategic plan to revive dairy industry

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake held discussions on 3rd of June at the Presidential Secretariat with senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, focusing on revitalizing Sri Lanka’s dairy industry.

The talks aimed to transform state-owned entities MILCO and the National Livestock Development Board into efficient, productive enterprises capable of meeting the country’s dairy demand.

President Dissanayake stressed the need to reduce production costs and optimize resource use to develop a market-oriented, sustainable local dairy sector.

Officials from MILCO reported an increase in production capacity during the first quarter of this year compared to the same period in the previous year.

The meeting was attended by Agriculture Minister K.D. Lalkantha, senior presidential and ministry officials, and heads of key dairy institutions including MILCO and the National Livestock Development Board.
