Sri Lanka launches first European-regulated investment fund to attract global capital

Sri Lanka has taken a significant step toward attracting international investment with the official launch of the Sri Lanka Opportunity Fund, the country’s first European-regulated investment fund of its kind.

The fund was formally launched on February 25, 2026, and is structured under the UCITS (Undertakings for Collective Investment in Transferable Securities) framework — a European regulatory standard known for its high levels of investor protection, transparency and daily liquidity.

Managed by ACP Asset Management together with its investment partner ACP Corum, the fund offers foreign investors a secure and regulated avenue to invest in Sri Lankan equities and fixed-income instruments.

The Sri Lanka Opportunity Fund primarily focuses on listed shares on the Colombo Stock Exchange, targeting sectors such as banking, consumer goods and export industries. It also invests in government and high-quality corporate bonds denominated in U.S. dollars and Sri Lankan rupees. To ensure daily liquidity, the fund maintains at least 30% of its assets in liquid instruments.

The fund secured an initial investment of $20 million on its first day, with a further $30 million in investor commitments.

Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe welcomed the launch, describing it as a landmark initiative that strengthens international confidence in Sri Lanka’s capital markets. He noted that a European-regulated structure such as UCITS provides the credibility, transparency and investor protection needed to attract long-term global capital into the economy.

He added that the fund would play an important role in deepening the Colombo Stock Exchange and supporting sustainable economic growth as Sri Lanka continues its recovery.
