

Between 1st of January and September 2025, Sri Lanka imported a total of 200,026 vehicles, with 154,537 already released by the Department of Customs, according to the Committee on Finance.

The released vehicles comprised 98,923 motorcycles, 40,323 motor vehicles, 9,025 three-wheelers, 5,368 commercial vehicles, and 898 vans and buses. Customs generated Rs. 429 billion in revenue from these releases.
During the same period, 30,594 letters of credit (LCs) were opened for vehicle imports, totaling USD 1,491 million in value.
