Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath held discussions with the Ambassador of Russia to Sri Lanka, Levan S. Dzhagaryan, on the possibility of purchasing Russian fuel.
The meeting took place this afternoon at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism amid disruptions to global fuel supply networks caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The talks also followed the recent easing of sanctions related to the purchase of Russian oil.
During the discussion, Minister Herath explored the option of importing Russian fuel as a measure to help maintain a stable fuel supply in Sri Lanka.
Ambassador Dzhagaryan agreed to immediately convey Sri Lanka’s request to the Russian government and assured that he would coordinate with the relevant Russian authorities to facilitate the necessary arrangements.
