In a show of regional environmental cooperation, Sri Lanka has donated 1,000 non-endemic plants to the Maldives to support a reforestation initiative in the island nation.
The symbolic handover ceremony was held yesterday at the Ministry of Environment in Colombo, with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Environment, Dr. Dammika Patabendi, and Deputy Minister Anton Jayakody officially presenting a selection of the plants.
The plants were received by Mr. Masood Imad, High Commissioner of the Maldives to Sri Lanka, in the presence of senior officials, including the Secretary to the Ministry of Environment.
The event underscored the shared commitment of both countries to advancing environmental sustainability and strengthening regional cooperation in ecological conservation.
