The Governments of Sri Lanka and Belize have formally established diplomatic relations with effect from October 21, following the signing of an agreement between the two nations.
The agreement was signed in New York by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jayantha Jayasuriya, and Belize’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Janine Coye-Felson.
In a joint statement, the foreign ministries of both countries said that the establishment of diplomatic relations will strengthen existing friendly ties and promote cooperation in political, socio-economic, and cultural fields for the mutual benefit of Sri Lanka and Belize.
