Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s strong support for the Riyadh Declaration on the Future of Tourism, which was adopted at the 26th Session of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) General Assembly.
In his address to the Assembly, Minister Herath emphasized the vital role of tourism and digitalization in Sri Lanka’s current economic development agenda.
He noted that the policy, strategic, and implementation aspects of the Riyadh Declaration are closely aligned with Sri Lanka’s own national priorities for digital transformation and tourism growth.
The Minister further stated that Sri Lanka looks forward to the timely implementation of the Declaration’s key outcomes — particularly the reports on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on tourism, as well as discussions on a potential future convention.
