Sri Lanka declares national women’s week

In celebration of International Women’s Day on 8th of March the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has declared a National Women’s Week to mark the occasion.

This year’s theme, “Strong She: A Pathway to Building a Sustainable Future,” highlights the importance of women’s empowerment. From 2nd of March to 8th of March a series of nationwide programs will focus on women’s health, safety, awareness, and technological skill development.

To support women entrepreneurs, the “Liya Shakthi” Women’s Fair will be held on March 5 and 6 at Viharamahadevi Park, Colombo, providing a platform for showcasing their products.

The official Women’s Day celebration will take place at the “Suhurupaya” Auditorium in Battaramulla, under the guidance of Minister Saroja Savithri Paulraj and Deputy Minister Dr. Namal Sudarshana, with Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya as the chief guest.
