Sri Lanka Customs records historic revenue high this year

Sri Lanka Customs has recorded a historic revenue of Rs. 2,497 billion so far in 2025, surpassing even its revised annual target, according to Customs Media Spokesperson and Director of Customs, Chandana Punchihewa.

He said the Ministry of Finance had initially set a revenue target of Rs. 2,115 billion for 2025, which was exceeded by November, leading to a revision of the target to Rs. 2,231 billion. However, the revised target has also now been surpassed.

Speaking to the media, Punchihewa attributed the sharp increase in revenue to several internal measures implemented by Sri Lanka Customs, as well as the resumption of vehicle imports.

He noted that the revenue target for the previous year stood at Rs. 1,531 billion, while the significantly higher target for 2025 was set following the decision to permit vehicle imports. He added that vehicle imports, together with the reforms introduced by Customs, played a key role in exceeding the revenue targets.
