Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will allocate nearly Rs. 1.5 billion each year to develop and promote school cricket across the country, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage announced in Parliament yesterday (24th).
Responding to a question on SLC’s role in supporting school-level cricket, the Minister said the funding will be channelled through the School Cricket Association and directed towards several key areas — including infrastructure development, the supply of sports equipment, and the organization of school tournaments.
He further revealed that plans are underway to upgrade and develop playing fields at multiple locations in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Cricket Board to strengthen the foundation of the country’s cricketing future.
