Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), under the leadership of President Shammi Silva and the Executive Committee, has launched several special initiatives to support government relief efforts for people displaced by severe flooding and disaster conditions across the island.
R. Premadasa Stadium
The R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo was opened last Friday to provide emergency shelter for residents whose homes were inundated. SLC has also instructed its staff to work closely with government officials to fully support the services provided to affected families.
Food Distribution
Sri Lanka Cricket has begun distributing food parcels daily as part of its relief contribution. This programme, which commenced on Saturday, ensures that official government relief centres receive food parcels each day to support the flood-affected community.
Additional Support
SLC President Shammi Silva and Treasurer Sujeewa Godaliyadda met with the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Sunil Kumara Gamage, along with other government officials engaged in relief operations, and pledged Sri Lanka Cricket’s full support.
Sri Lanka National Cricket Team
During the final match of the Tri-Nation Cricket Tournament in Pakistan, the Sri Lankan national team observed a minute’s silence to honour those who died or went missing in the floods. The Pakistan team also joined in paying tribute before the final match of the Twenty20 Tri-Nation Tournament in Rawalpindi.
