Sri Lanka coast guard rescues 10 tourists from drowning

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) rescued ten local and foreign tourists from drowning during lifesaving operations carried out across several coastal areas between 24th and 27th of December 2025.

The incidents occurred at popular beaches including Mount Lavinia, Balapitiya, Mirissa and Nilaweli. Among those rescued were seven foreign nationals from Russia, Ukraine and Jordan, along with three local tourists aged between 14 and 50 years.

Since its establishment in 2009, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard has saved more than 2,500 lives, including 1,160 foreign nationals, underscoring its vital role in safeguarding lives along Sri Lanka’s coastline.
