Sri Lanka clinches four medals at Thai open athletic championship

Sri Lankan athletes secured two gold medals and two silver medals on the opening day of the Thai Open Athletic Championship in Bangkok, which began on 23rd of June and will run until 25th of June .

Rusiru Chathuranga won gold in the Men’s 1,500m final with a time of 3:53.30, while Madushani Herath clinched gold in the Women’s long jump with a personal best of 6.37 meters.

In the same Men’s 1,500m event, V. Vakshan earned a silver medal with a time of 3:54.72, and W.K.L.A. Nimali took silver in the Women’s 1,500m, finishing in 4:32.39.

Amasha de Silva (100m) and Wathsala Hapuarachchi (100m hurdles) finished first in their respective heats, qualifying for the finals scheduled for today.

A total of eight athletes—four men and four women—are representing Sri Lanka at this prestigious regional competition, which features top athletes from across Asia.
