
The 78th session of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Regional Committee for South-East Asia officially commenced in Colombo today (13), with Sri Lanka’s Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa elected as Chairman for a one-year term.
The three-day session, which will continue until October 15, marks a significant milestone for Sri Lanka as the host nation of this high-level regional health forum.
The event is being attended by WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Regional Director for South-East Asia Dr. Katerina Böhm, health ministers from eight member states, ambassadors from two countries, and several WHO experts.
Discussions during the session will focus on developing the region’s health strategy for the coming year, addressing key public health priorities, and strengthening collaborative efforts among South-East Asian nations.
