Sri Lanka attracts USD 650 million in FDI in first quarter: Minister

Sri Lanka received USD 650 million in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) during the first quarter of 2025, marking a significant increase compared to previous years, Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti told Parliament yesterday.

He noted that this investment supports 64 projects within just the first three months of the year. “In 2023, the total FDI for the entire year was only USD 483 million, and in 2024, it was USD 724 million for 93 projects. But in this quarter alone, we have already secured USD 650 million across 64 projects,” the minister said.

Handunnetti highlighted the data as a strong sign of investor confidence and commended the efforts of the Board of Investment (BOI) in driving these results.
