Sri Lanka appoints new Honorary Consul in Brisbane

Sri Lanka has appointed Nalin Perera as its new Honorary Consul in Brisbane, Queensland, with consular jurisdiction covering the entire state.

The Commission of Appointment was formally handed over to Perera on February 19 by Sri Lanka High Commissioner to Australia Yasoja Gunasekera at the Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra.

Perera, a businessman in the healthcare sector and philanthropist, is actively involved in professional forums within both the Sri Lankan and Australian communities, as well as in Buddhist associations in Australia, the Foreign Ministry stated.

Congratulating Perera on his appointment, High Commissioner Gunasekera emphasized the importance of strengthening Sri Lanka’s engagement with Queensland. She noted that Perera’s extensive business connections in the state will enable him to support the High Commission’s initiatives to promote trade, investment, and tourism opportunities for Sri Lanka.

Perera expressed his eagerness to facilitate consular services for the approximately 20,000-member Sri Lankan community in Queensland, in coordination with the Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra.
