

Sri Lanka and Vietnam aim to raise their annual bilateral trade to US$1 billion by 2030, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced yesterday (08).

He said the agreement was reached during bilateral talks with the visiting Vietnamese President.
The President also invited Vietnamese investors to explore opportunities in Sri Lanka across key sectors such as renewable energy, logistics, infrastructure development, tourism, and manufacturing.
Vietnam has agreed to donate 100 metric tonnes of urea and superphosphate fertilizer to support Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector.
In addition, the President announced the launch of direct flights between Colombo and Ho Chi Minh City as well as Hanoi later this year to strengthen connectivity.
The announcement was made at a joint press conference with Vietnamese President and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam.
During the visit, Sri Lanka and Vietnam also signed five Memoranda of Understanding covering cooperation in information and communication, culture, religion, science, and technology.
