

Sri Lanka and Russia convened the 11th Round of Bilateral Political Consultations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & Tourism in Colombo, strengthening ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two nations. Both sides reviewed their wide-ranging bilateral relations and discussed new measures to deepen cooperation.

Talks focused on expanding collaboration in key sectors including tourism, education, defense, trade and investment, as well as sports and cultural exchanges. Discussions also explored opportunities to enhance cooperation in energy, petroleum, coal, and fertilizer sectors.
The two countries agreed to work towards increasing bilateral trade and strengthening overall economic ties. They also addressed matters concerning Sri Lankan ex-servicemen serving in the Russian military and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting each other on issues of mutual interest in multilateral forums.
Looking ahead, Sri Lanka and Russia agreed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027 with a series of special events and high-level visits. During the visit, Russian Deputy Minister Andrey Rudenko met with Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, where both sides reiterated their commitment to further strengthening longstanding ties.
The consultations were co-chaired by Aruni Ranaraja and Andrey Rudenko, with senior officials from both countries participating in the discussions.
