Sri Lanka and Maldives sign multiple MoUs to strengthen bilateral ties

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who is currently on a state visit to the Maldives, held bilateral discussions with Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on the 28th at the Maldivian Presidential Office.

Upon his arrival, President Dissanayake was warmly welcomed by President Muizzu, after which he signed the official guest book and posed for a ceremonial photograph with his Maldivian counterpart.

The two leaders then engaged in bilateral talks focused on strengthening cooperation between Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Following the discussions, several agreements were exchanged between the two nations, including a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Foreign Service Institute of Maldives (FOSIM) and Sri Lanka’s Bandaranaike Diplomatic Training Institute.

Another key agreement focused on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, aimed at enhancing judicial cooperation between the two countries.

These agreements were signed by Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, and Vijitha Herath, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism.

The MoUs are expected to boost collaboration in areas such as legal affairs and diplomatic training, while promoting closer ties between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Following the agreement exchanges, both President Dissanayake and President Muizzu delivered statements to the media regarding the outcomes of the state visit.
