Sri Lanka and France sign debt restructuring agreement

The Ministry of Finance announced that the signing of a bilateral agreement between Sri Lanka and France marks a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s ongoing external debt restructuring process.

The official signing ceremony took place on 16th of June in Colombo.

The agreement was signed by Mahinda Siriwardana, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, on behalf of the Sri Lankan government, and William Roos, Assistant Secretary at the French Treasury, representing the government of France.

According to the Finance Ministry, this agreement reflects Sri Lanka’s strong commitment to swiftly concluding the debt restructuring process to restore debt sustainability and revive the national economy.

The Ministry also acknowledged France’s key role in co-chairing Sri Lanka’s Official Creditor Committee, alongside Japan and India, and praised France’s leadership and constructive engagement throughout the process.

The Finance Ministry further stated that the cooperation between the two countries has helped Sri Lanka make significant progress in its economic recovery and will also help deepen bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and France in the years ahead.
