Special warning for Victorians traveling to Southeast Asia

Australian tourists are at high risk from illicit alcohol in Southeast Asia, according to the country’s trade watchdog.

The Trade Coalition Against Illicit Trade (TRACIT) has revealed that 33 percent of alcohol consumed in Laos is counterfeit or substandard.

This comes after the tragic deaths of two young women from Melbourne in Vang Vieng, who died after consuming alcohol laced with methanol.

The incident has sparked a global debate about the dangers of illicit alcohol.

Geoffrey Hardy, director of TRACIT, stated that there has been a rise in the number of deaths linked to such alcohol consumption.

Additionally, reports of alcohol poisoning incidents have also surfaced in the Latin American region.
