Special notice for Australia day citizenship recipients

Many immigrants will gain Australian citizenship this year during Australia Day celebrations.

The Department of Home Affairs has issued guidelines to help those selected for citizenship prepare for the ceremony.

If your application is approved, you will become eligible for Australian citizenship.

Eligible candidates will receive an invitation letter from their local council or the Department of Home Affairs at least four weeks before the ceremony.

The invitation will include details of the date, time, and location.

It’s important to note that you are not officially an Australian citizen until you take the Australian Pledge during the ceremony.

Due to limited spots, immigrants are advised to contact the Department of Home Affairs if they don’t receive an invitation within 12 months of meeting the qualifications.

Those attending the ceremony can bring a friend, as mentioned in the invitation letter. The event is expected to last at least two hours.

On the day of the ceremony, attendees must bring a valid Australian driver’s license, passport, or another photo ID. If documents are not in English, official translations are required.

Additionally, it is recommended to bring at least three documents showing your name and address, such as bank statements, utility bills, or credit card statements.
