
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced that a special exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic will be held for the general public after the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
He stated that discussions regarding the event took place yesterday (23rd) with the Chief Prelates (Mahanayaka Theras) of the Malwathu and Asgiriya Chapters.
The arrangements for the exposition were finalized with the participation of the Governor of the Central Province, the Kandy District Secretary, other government officials, and the Diyawadana Nilame of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).
During his visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy yesterday morning (23rd), President Dissanayake paid homage to the relic and received blessings.
He then visited the Malwathu Maha Viharaya, where he met with the Chief Prelate of the Malwathu Chapter, Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera, inquiring about his well-being and engaging in a brief discussion. The Maha Sangha chanted Seth Pirith to invoke blessings upon the President.
Following this, he proceeded to the Asgiriya Maha Viharaya, where he met with the Chief Prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter, Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thera, along with senior monks, including the Anunayaka Theras of the Asgiriya Chapter. The Maha Sangha once again chanted Seth Pirith to bless the President.
Addressing journalists, President Dissanayake assured that there is no threat to national security. While acknowledging conflicts among underworld groups, he emphasized that they do not pose a risk to public safety. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating organized crime, which had previously thrived under political protection.
The President also reiterated his commitment to holding local government elections as soon as possible. He confirmed that no legal obstacles exist for the Election Commission to proceed and that the necessary funds have already been allocated. He expressed confidence that the Election Commission will announce the election date soon.
The event was attended by Minister Samantha Vidyarathna, Deputy Ministers Dr. Prasanna Gunasena and Dr. Hansaka Wijayamuni, Kandy District MP Thushari Jayasinghe, Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela Bandara, and several other dignitaries.
