South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol is facing impeachment for the second time

South Korean lawmakers are set to meet again on whether to impeach Yun Suk Yeol over his failed martial law bid.

The National Assembly is expected to vote on whether to impeach Yun for “rebellious acts that undermine constitutional order” at around 4pm local time on Saturday, a week after the first attempt to remove him.

Two hundred votes are needed for impeachment to pass, meaning opposition lawmakers must convince eight lawmakers from Yoon’s conservative People Power Party (PPP) to switch sides.

As of Friday, seven ruling party lawmakers had expressed support for the impeachment — leaving the vote up in the air.

If approved, Yoon would be suspended from office while South Korea’s constitutional court deliberates. Prime Minister Han Duk-soo will serve as interim president.

. The court then has 180 days to decide on Yoon’s future.
