South Australian families struggling with the high cost of fertility treatment will receive new financial support as the state government’s IVF rebate scheme begins on July 1.
The $18.5 million program will provide eligible families with a $2,000 rebate for each IVF cycle, covering up to two cycles, along with a $250 rebate for approved pre-IVF fertility testing.
The initiative aims to reduce the financial pressure on couples trying to have children, with IVF treatments often costing thousands of dollars. One Adelaide family, who spent around $250,000 during their fertility journey, welcomed the scheme as a major relief for future parents.
South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said the support would help ensure IVF costs do not prevent families from pursuing their dream of having a child.
Eligible applicants must meet certain criteria, including income limits or receiving government support payments, and treatments must be completed through registered providers from July 1 onwards.
