SLTDA launches digital land bank, opens 3,000 acres for tourism development

Sri Lanka has launched the Land Bank Management Information System (LBMIS) to boost tourism investments by making over 3,000 acres of state and private land available for development.

Announced at a press conference in Colombo, the initiative is led by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) and aims to streamline access to land for tourism-related projects.

The LBMIS serves as a digital one-stop platform, allowing investors to explore pre-evaluated land parcels, while landowners can list their properties for lease, sale, or partnership.

All land will be offered on a 33-year lease, with the government reserving the right to reclaim and reallocate land if project timelines are not met.

Deputy Tourism Minister Prof. Ruwan Ranasighe emphasized that the move supports sustainable tourism growth and sends a strong message about the importance of implementation.

The LBMIS is accessible at landbank.sltda.gov.lk and includes properties suitable for various projects such as luxury resorts, eco-lodges, wellness retreats, and agri-tourism.

Featured lands include 1,713 acres at Dedduwa Lake, over 1,000 acres in Kalpitiya, 74 acres in Kuchchaveli, and multiple plots in Trincomalee, Bentota, and Pasikudah.

The SLTDA’s Investor Relations Unit will assist with all necessary approvals and permits through a single-window system.

The government invites both local and foreign investors with a proven track record to submit Expressions of Interest and also encourages private landowners to participate in the platform.

This digital land bank marks a significant step in positioning Sri Lanka as a high-value tourism destination in Asia.
