Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake announced that women will soon be recruited as drivers and conductors for the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), wearing newly designed uniforms styled at air hostess level.

He revealed that interviews are currently being conducted to recruit 450 drivers and 300 conductors, with female candidates included in the intake.
In the first phase, women staff members will be assigned to operate school buses in the Colombo district, with plans to gradually expand the programme across the island.
