Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that Sri Lanka’s democracy has evolved to resemble that of countries like the UK, as reflected in the low voter turnout at the local government elections.
He noted that compared to previous elections, far fewer people came out to vote this time.
Wickremesinghe remarked that many of those who did vote appeared to be closely associated with specific candidates.
Speaking to the media after casting his ballot at College House in Colombo, he expressed hope that his party’s candidates would perform well in the election.
