The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has rejected social media reports claiming that actor Rajitha Hiran, widely known as Ping Pong, has been appointed as the party’s organizer for the Kesbewa constituency.
Ajith Naragala, the SLPP’s chief organizer for Kesbewa, stated that the circulating claims are completely false.
He explained that the confusion arose after the inauguration of the SLPP office in Kesbewa, which was held under the patronage of the party’s General Secretary, former MP and Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasam. The event was attended by politicians, artists, and academics.
According to Naragala, a photograph showing Rajitha Hiran signing the guest book at the event, along with several other artists, was shared on social media and wrongly presented as evidence of a political appointment.
He emphasised that Rajitha Hiran has not been appointed as the Kesbewa electoral organizer and described the claims as entirely untrue.
Naragala also expressed regret over the spread of what he called false and misleading information, adding that such attempts appear aimed at discouraging artists and well-known public figures from supporting the SLPP.
