Sohara Buhari, a councillor representing the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) in the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), has lost her council seat following disciplinary action taken by her party for violating official directives.
The disciplinary process was initiated after Buhari voted in favour of the National People’s Power (NPP) during the council’s budget vote, going against instructions issued by the SLMC leadership.
SLMC General Secretary and President’s Counsel Nizam Kariapper, who also serves as a Member of Parliament, imposed the disciplinary measures in response to the incident.
Subsequently, the Election Commissioner confirmed her removal from the Colombo Municipal Council in accordance with the party’s decision.
