Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has introduced significant changes to its governance structure, reducing the number of voting members from 147 to 60. According to a statement, voting rights will now be allocated based on the level of cricket played by each member club, with all qualified clubs and associations entitled to a single vote.
The decision, made during an extraordinary general meeting on 20th of December 2024, also included key amendments to the SLC Constitution. These changes aim to promote good governance, transparency, inclusivity, and efficiency within the organization.
To enhance financial accountability, members unanimously approved the establishment of three new committees: the Audit Committee, the Investment and Budget Committee, and the Related Party Transactions Committee.
These reforms are expected to create a more equitable playing field for cricketing stakeholders, aligning representation within SLC with merit and contributions to the sport’s development. The amendments also reflect SLC’s commitment to fostering professionalism and transparency for the holistic growth of cricket in Sri Lanka.
Additionally, the meeting appointed the Election Committee for 2025, chaired by retired Court of Appeal Judge Malanie Gunaratne, to oversee preparations and conduct the upcoming SLC elections.
