SLBFE warns public of fake job scams circulating on YouTube, Facebook

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has issued a warning about a fake foreign job scam being promoted on YouTube and Facebook.

The scam, allegedly run by a former Dubai worker, involves collecting video statements from Sri Lankans employed in Dubai and editing them to falsely suggest that the scammer helped them secure jobs. These misleading videos are then shared on social media to lure more victims.

The SLBFE’s Special Investigation Unit is currently probing the case, with several complaints already lodged by victims who lost money. Legal action has been initiated, and investigations are ongoing.

The Bureau reminds the public that only licensed agents can charge fees or advertise overseas jobs, and doing so without approval is a punishable offense under SLBFE regulations.

People are urged not to trust suspicious job ads online and are encouraged to report such scams by calling 1989 or the Special Investigations Division at 0112864123. The SLBFE thanked the public for their continued support in protecting Sri Lankan job seekers.
