The Sri Lanka Association of Manufacturers and Exporters of Rubber Products (SLAMERP) held its 14th Annual General Meeting (AGM), unveiling strategic initiatives for the future of Sri Lanka’s rubber industry and introducing its leadership team for 2025/26.
Mr. Pushpika Janadheera, Managing Director of Dipped Products PLC, was re-elected as Chairman.
In his address, he highlighted the industry’s achievements, including $1 billion in export revenue in 2024, and emphasized the growing global demand for value-added rubber products.
“This trend presents an incredible opportunity for Sri Lanka to modernize the sector, drive innovation, and enhance its economic contribution further,” he stated.
SLAMERP’s vision includes the continued implementation of the Rubber Master Plan, focusing on modernization and environmental sustainability.
A key milestone in 2024 was the signing of the Thailand Free Trade Agreement (SLTFTA), enhancing trade relations and market access.
Additionally, the association conducted training programs on technological advancements, EUDR compliance, and best practices to maintain global competitiveness.
Addressing industry challenges such as high energy costs, reliance on imported raw materials, and declining natural rubber production, Mr. Janadheera stressed the importance of a unified approach.
“Our vision is clear: to establish Sri Lanka as a global force in the rubber industry by embracing innovation, sustainability, and collaboration,” he added.
Key leadership appointments for 2025/26 included Dr. Eng Sisira Ranatunga as Director General, Mr. Chinthaka Wegapitiya as Vice Chairman, Mr. Channa De Silva as Hon. Secretary, and Mrs. Palika Chandrajeewa as Hon. Treasurer.
This year also marks SLAMERP’s 40th anniversary, celebrating four decades of contributions to Sri Lanka’s rubber industry.
To commemorate the milestone, the association plans a special event to honor its legacy, industry achievements, and socio-economic impact.
With a target of $2 billion in exports by 2030, SLAMERP remains committed to innovation, sustainability, and strategic partnerships, ensuring sustained growth and global recognition for Sri Lanka’s rubber sector.
