SL vs Australia women’s World Cup match abandoned due to rain

The league stage match between defending champions Australia and Sri Lanka at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 was abandoned without a ball being bowled at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

In what would have been Sri Lanka’s first home fixture of the tournament, the toss was initially delayed due to a wet outfield. However, persistent rain soon followed and showed no signs of easing, forcing officials to call off the match several hours after the scheduled start time.

Both teams were awarded one point each from the abandoned game, with Australia moving to the top of the table and Sri Lanka collecting their first point of the tournament.

Looking ahead, Australia will face Pakistan on October 8 in Colombo, while Sri Lanka will prepare to host England next week.
