
The President stated that the government’s policy is to build a defence force capable of responding to emerging technological threats, particularly in cyberspace, while also strengthening Sri Lanka’s maritime and airspace security capabilities.
He made these remarks while dismissing concerns that communal tensions or racist conflicts could escalate into armed confrontation.
The President also outlined the support being extended to Sri Lanka’s security forces by India and the United States.
India has provided 70 jeeps and a range of technical assistance, and has proposed supporting the establishment of a technical academy to enhance the skill levels of the armed forces.
The United States has committed to gifting 10 TH-57 helicopters to Sri Lanka in 2026. Additionally, the US and Australia will gift two C-130 aircraft to the Sri Lanka Air Force in 2026 and 2027.
The President noted that KA-360 and KA-350 Beechcraft aircraft have already been gifted by the US and Australia.
