
Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation Bimal Ratnayake recently led high-level discussions to evaluate the readiness of Sri Lanka’s ports and airports in light of rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders from the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Airport and Aviation Services, Colombo and Hambantota port terminals, customs, and major shipping companies to address potential regional disruptions.
Minister Ratnayake emphasized the importance of operational preparedness, stating that Sri Lanka must be ready to manage both immediate challenges and seize new opportunities arising from shifting geopolitical dynamics.
He noted that the country’s infrastructure must be capable of accommodating increased ship traffic without affecting ongoing operations.
The discussion also centered on enhancing inter-agency coordination, logistics efficiency, and uninterrupted service delivery during regional or global disruptions.
Minister Ratnayake urged all institutions involved to remain alert and committed to positioning Sri Lanka as a reliable hub for trade and aviation amid global uncertainties.
He stressed the need for proactive planning and responsive infrastructure to maintain the country’s strategic edge in the region.
