Sri Lanka’s President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the age of 100.
In a post on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), President Dissanayake honored Carter’s extraordinary life, highlighting his unwavering dedication to peace, human rights, and humanitarian efforts, which earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
He added, “May his legacy live on as a beacon of hope to build a better world for all.”
Carter, the former Georgia peanut farmer, served as U.S. president during challenging times, including a tough economy and the Iran hostage crisis.
However, his most lasting achievement was brokering peace between Israel and Egypt. After his presidency, he earned a reputation as a devoted humanitarian and lived longer than any other U.S. president.
Despite facing challenges in office, Carter became widely regarded as a more influential former president than during his time in the White House—an acknowledgment he himself made.
