SL President departs to Vietnam for a state visit

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake departed for Vietnam a short while ago, beginning his official state visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).

The visit, taking place from 4th to 6th of May at the invitation of Vietnamese President Luong Cuong, marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Vietnam.

It aims to further strengthen the long-standing bilateral ties between the two countries.

During his stay, President Dissanayake will hold official discussions with both the President and Prime Minister of Vietnam, and meet with senior leaders, including the General Secretary of the Communist Party.

He will also attend the United Nations Day of Vesak celebrations in Ho Chi Minh City on May 6 as the chief guest, delivering the keynote address.

Several Memoranda of Understanding and Agreements are expected to be signed, while discussions with the Vietnamese business community will explore greater economic cooperation.

Accompanying him on this official visit are Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, along with a delegation of senior government officials.
