
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Vijitha Herath announced that Sri Lanka has earned $3.7 billion from tourist arrivals in the past six months.
Speaking at an event at the Seeta Amman Kovil in Nuwara Eliya, he said the government expects to earn an additional $3.7 billion by the end of the year.
Herath noted that Indian tourists form the largest visitor group to Sri Lanka, with many arriving for religious tourism.
He highlighted sites such as Koneswaram Temple and Kataragama as especially popular among Indian tourists.
“That is a major strength for us,” he said, emphasizing the importance of tourism in Sri Lanka’s post-crisis economic recovery.
Minister Herath stated that so far, 1.3 million tourists have visited the country this year, generating $3.7 billion in revenue.
He added that the government aims to attract 3 million tourists in total for 2025 and is making steady progress toward that goal.
