SL customs seize Rs. 68 M worth of narcotics hidden in sea cargo from Oman

Customs officials at the Transco UPB warehouse in Wattala today intercepted a sea cargo parcel from Oman containing narcotics worth over Rs. 68 million.

The consignment included 2,697 grams of Methamphetamine and 5 grams of cocaine, hidden in a package addressed to a 66-year-old woman in Balummahara, Mudungoda.

Suspicion arose during routine inspections, leading to a thorough examination and discovery of the drugs.

A 35-year-old clearing agent who arrived to collect the package was arrested by Customs officers.

The Customs Narcotics Control Unit is leading further investigations, and the suspect, along with the narcotics, will be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau.
