SL and Saudi Arabia sign agreement for 2025 Hajj Pilgrimage

Sri Lanka recently signed an agreement for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, reaffirming the commitment of both governments to enhancing the pilgrimage experience for Sri Lankan Muslims.

The agreement was signed on January 11 by Sri Lanka’s Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Sunil Senevi, and Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr. Abdulfattah Bin Sulaiman Mashat.

According to the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Jeddah, Minister Senevi’s visit was at the invitation of the Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah.

During bilateral discussions preceding the agreement, Minister Senevi highlighted Sri Lanka’s focus on improving the Hajj experience for its citizens and shared plans to streamline operations for a more efficient pilgrimage process.

Minister Senevi is also scheduled to meet the Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr. Tawfiq Fawzan Alrabiah, and engage with Hajj service providers.

The delegation plans to visit Madinah, the holy Prophet’s city, and other significant cultural sites in Jeddah and Madinah.

Additionally, the Minister interacted with the Sri Lankan community in Jeddah, emphasizing the government’s dedication to their welfare.

The Sri Lankan delegation includes Deputy Minister of National Integration Muneer Mulaffar, Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ameer Ajwad, Director of the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs M.R.M. Nawas, Acting Consul General in Jeddah Mafusa Lafir, and Hajj Coordinator Dr. M.N.M. Ahsraff.
