Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa announced that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Working Committee has approved plans to engage with other Opposition parties, including the United National Party (UNP), to build a unified strategy for the upcoming local government elections.
Speaking outside the SJB headquarters, Premadasa accused the government of failing to fulfill key promises, such as reducing electricity tariffs, lowering fuel prices, and ensuring fertilizer subsidies for farmers.
Premadasa highlighted the disconnect between the government’s promises and actions, stating that it demonstrates their inability to address the pressing needs of the public.
He urged the government, which holds a significant public mandate, to honor its commitments, warning that the Opposition will persist in advocating for the people’s rights within a democratic framework.
During the SJB Working Committee meeting, members discussed strategies to counter what Premadasa described as government suppression of public voices, while emphasizing the importance of preparing for the elections.
Premadasa reaffirmed the SJB’s readiness for the elections and emphasized the party’s commitment to forming alliances with other Opposition forces to address the challenges faced by the public.
