Six whales die in New Zealand mass stranding as rescue everything efforts continue for survivors

Six whales have died on a remote beach in New Zealand’s South Island following a mass stranding, while volunteers are racing against time to help 15 others that remain alive return to the sea.

Around 55 pilot whales washed ashore at Farewell Spit on Thursday. Although most were able to make their way back into the ocean, 15 whales restranded and are now scattered along approximately one kilometre of the beach.
